“What a unique gem! The sharpening service alone has no peer in the city, with expert hand sharpening on a whetstone (no plowing knives through a grinder here!) that produces a perfect sharpness without compromising the lifespan of a knife. They even do serrated knives by hand with diamond files.
If you're in the market to buy quality knives you won't find a better selection or more knowledgeable people anywhere.”

I brought my wood chisels in to get sharpened. They had a few nicks and dings on the blade as well as needing a good sharpening. I got them back within a few days, looking and performing like new. Keep up the quality work!!!

90% of the time, Yes. Knives are tools that wear over time. We bring them back to life, in terms of function and aesthetics. If the quote of the repair/sharpening exceeds what you paid for the knife, then maybe it’s worth buying a new knife.
-
Every knife is different. Every job is different. For standard sharpening, you will pay $10–30 per item. Depends on size and condition. Expect to pay more for same-day service, high-end Japanese blades, major repairs, rust removal, etc. You will get a quote upon knife dropoff.
-
Depends on the inventory. We consistently finish each set within 48 hours or less. If a job will take longer, we tell you up front. Customers can always pay the add-on fee for same-day service. We can usually sharpen 1 knife on the spot if no major repairs are needed.

Yes we have a rotating selection of foreign, domestic, and commercial kitchen knives. We mostly carry German, Japanese, and American blades of varying qualities. No matter your budget, your preferences, or your needs, we will probably have something for you. We also sell whetstones, honing rods, and other sharpening supplies. We do not sell pocket knives or weapons of any sort.

Currently my books are closed. Once resumed, you can either schedule a 1-hour lesson or sign up for a group class. You bring your own knives , and the lesson is tailored to your own equipment. Learn what whetstones are and how to use them, and how to diagnose your own blades’ needs in terms of maintenance and care.

We can restore rusty blades, switch out and customize Japanese Wa-style handles, engrave wooden sheaths with names or initials, tip repairs, blade thinning, and more.
-
Standard bread knives, Yes. Anything with super fine or super wide teeth is a toss-up.

Carefully. Wrap each blade in a kitchen towel, newspaper, or a cloth roll so the edges are covered, and bundle them together or lay them flat in a bag or box. The wrap doesn’t need to look pretty! Please don't hand us loose knives or drop them in a bag point-up. If you have a knife roll or a small toolbox, feel free to use one, of course.
Frequently Asked Questions
We have seen it all when it comes to how customers bring us their knives. Tinfoil. Dish towels. A box that says ‘Fragile: Paper Towels.’ We’ve received knives in every disguise imaginable.
One of the best ways to transport them? Wrap them in a kitchen towel.
Newspaper or a cloth roll works too — just cover the edges. It doesn't need to look pretty. Please, no loose knives, and nothing dropped in a bag point-up.
We'll pop it into one of our sheaths, write you up a slip, and within a day or two it's sharpened. We'll text, email or call — whatever you prefer.
Pro tip: we sell knife rolls. Great for yourself or as a gift. Come see us.
