On Anthony Bourdain
August 2026With the new biopic Tony out August 7th, I've been thinking about what he meant to those of us who came up in kitchens.
“I love him because he's someone who's shown the grittiness of the business. A cook's cook who did what other line cooks had to do, like scrubbing pots & pans, burning and cutting ourselves on the line, and putting up with all the BS that comes with restaurant kitchens. He somehow rose to the top, and made us feel proud of our chosen profession.
What separates him from other celebrity chefs is his work ethic and his rise from the bottom to the top. It's easy to relate to someone whose path was similar. He exerts a coolness and swagger, mixed with a talent that all cooks strive for, but few achieve.”

Read the book before you see the movie. Kitchen Confidential is the memoir Tony is based on, and it lets you hear Anthony in his own voice. We've got it on the shelf — along with his other books, an original painting, and the tee. Come find them at the shop, or reach out and we’ll hold them for you.
